The console is a command line interface that allows players to input set commands. The console is disabled by default in Galactic Civilizations III.
To enable the console in Steam go to the game properties and the 'General' tab. Click 'Set Launch Options' and enter "cheat". The player can then access the console with the '~' key.
Typing in 'help' will list all commands. 'help <command>' will provide information relating to that command.

A commonly used command is 'unlock'. Typing 'unlock' will unlock all technologies for the player. It can also be used to unlock a specific technology by type 'unlock <internal name>' where <internal name> is the internal name of the technology. The internal names can be found in the species specific TechDef XML files.
For example to unlock Weapons Systems for the Terran Alliance the player would type 'unlock TerranWeaponsSystemsTech'.
